When thinking about meaning and purpose in life, hearing that someone is referred to as ‘the Author of life’, may be intriguing. In a follow-up from last week’s blog post, we explore that Author of life’s thoughts on His intention for our lives.
God’s love has a powerful effect on us. He commands us to love others as we have been loved by Him. He also says that ‘all people will know that [we] are [His] disciples‘, by our love for others. (John 13:34-35) In living our lives in this way, we will point others to Jesus.
The way in which we honour and love others, will tell them more about who Jesus is. We have an incredible opportunity to show the world the atypical, unselfish and unconditional love of Jesus. It is completely unrelated to our human accomplishments, but rather, determined by whether or not we understand and appreciate what Jesus has done for us. If we do, this will spur us on to show others His love. The world tells us to be the hero of our own story, whereas God’s plan for us is that we point others to Him.
While all these concepts may seem simple when talking about them in this context, life has a way of sometimes making everything pretty confusing. This can be discouraging, and it can cause us to doubt the existence of a purpose and a plan for our lives and to doubt that God is, in fact, writing your story. So with this in mind, I’d like to share a few truths that have strengthened me when things get rough.
I hope that you’re encouraged in the knowledge that God is writing your story, and wants to use you in a beautiful way to live out the purpose He has for your life. I pray that in living out this purpose, you will know and understand with your heart what it is to have your strength and joy in Jesus, and that He will sustain you to keep on running.
